Caveat: Because so much of the material published on Gypsies and Travelers on the Internet is misleading due either to stereotyping, antiquated perspectives on ethnicity or culture, poor scholarship, excessive political correctness or other biases and, in some cases, outright fabrication, the GLS does not make any claims for the accuracy of materials presented on any sites other than its own. The reader is on his/her own for evaluating the soundness of information. In order to assess the worth of any item of information the reader should always ask the following questions about any claims an author makes:

What facts or data were used to support the claims made? Were they personal observations, carefully screened primary historical sources, or did the author use only secondary sources, or worse, just make unsupported pronouncements? |

How were those facts obtained; were rigorous, systematic data-gathering methods used? |

Are the claims consistent with findings of the best scholars in the field? If not, how adequate is the support used to bolster the author's divergent perspectives? |
|
Does the author seem to have an axe to grind? That is, does he/she seem to be excessively favoring a single point of view instead of examining all sides of an issue? |

The Gypsy Collections at the University of Liverpool comprise the pre-1974
Gypsy Lore Society Archive, and the Scott Macfie Gypsy Collection of books,
manuscripts, prints, photographs, sound recordings and press cuttings. The
holdings encompass over 50,000 items in various media.

The Commission promotes cooperation between language groups, disciplines,
academics and researchers, and the widening of the empirical base of the concept
of nomadism to include different types of mobile populations across the world.
The Commission facilitates communication among specialists on nomadic and
pastoral peoples and those working to improve the status of nomadic peoples. The
Commission publishes the journal, Nomadic Peoples, and encourages the
maintenance of a high standard of scientific discussion on nomadism.
